In its simplest form, Search Engine Optimization or SEO, is the practice of designing web pages so that they rank as high as possible in search results from search engines. If this were simple, every web page would be on page 1 of every search engine.
Obviously, it is harder than it sounds. What makes this hard is that each search engine has their own way to view a page before they rank it. Google uses what is called page rank, which was named after one of its founders Mr. Larry Page.
Google puts a lot of emphasis on back links from highly ranked pages that contain content based or relative keywords on that page. Other search engines like to see pages optimized based around Meta Tags and Keyword Density.
This may sound very confusing and most people will tune out for lack of understanding. Or if you can understand how SEO works, you will then come to the conclusion of just how much skill it does really take to reach the goal of optimizing your web page in “all” the search engines. If you can achieve a high number of search engine optimized pages the traffic that those search engines will send you can earn you a full-time living on the Internet.
The easiest way to optimize the pages is to think like a search engine would and make it easy for them to understand your pages. Optimize it from the top to the bottom, letting the engine know the primary key words and a couple of secondary keywords relative to your site.
Do not keyword spam these words. Instead add other relative content to the page that sounds natural, compared to the primary keywords that you are optimizing for.
To understand what you are up against, Google search a few of the main keywords you want your website to be known for. Look at how they lay out their pages to get some idea of what you are going to have to do compete with them.
